involved in project execution and preparation for plant start-up in
any process industry. While the actual start-ups may differ by

Chris Wallsgrove; Manager, Process Engineering, Brinderson Engineers & Constructors Inc.
Chris Wallsgrove is Manager of Process Engineering with
Brinderson Engineers & Constructors Inc., a full-service
engineering and construction company based in California, USA.
He has concentrated on the startup related aspects of
engineering, including design, planning, training, initial operations
and plant troubleshooting. He has participated in the startup of
six world-scale petrochemicals plants, and more that ten other
major petroleum, petrochemical and chemical plants, worldwide.
He was recently responsible for precommissioning and
commissioning management for a first-of-a-kind petrochemical
plant in the Middle East. He is a member of the AIChE, IChemE
(UK) and the ACS, and has presented papers around the world
on startup, training and a variety of technical subjects.
Contributions on Course Development by:
John Butler, who has over forty years of experience managing
the effective design and operations of process plants, including all
phases of process design from conceptual developments to
hands-on startup and troubleshooting. He is Past Chairman of
the Fuels and Petrochemicals Division of the AIChE, and has
presented papers on startup, training and technical subjects
around the world.
