The American Board of Industrial Hygiene® (ABIH)

The American Board of Industrial Hygienewas incorporated in 1960 for the purpose of improving the practice and educational standards of the industrial hygiene profession. Toward that purpose ABIH offers certification for professional industrial hygienists. ABIH offers two certifications, the Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), and the Certified Associate Industrial Hygienist (CAIH).

While ABIH certification is voluntary, employers place increasing importance on it as a requirement or a desirable attribute for career advancement. Also, ABIH requires certification maintenance. On a regular basis CIHs/CAIHs must provide written demonstration of their continued professional practice, professional activities, and continuing education in industrial hygiene.
