This course covers a broad spectrum of general, practical and scientific knowledge and is designed for production and manufacturing managers, material scientists, chemists, new product specialists, design engineers and other technologists involved in efficiently producing quality finished products and in new process/product developments. The course should be beneficial to chemists, formulators, R&D scientists, technical service specialists, manufacturing managers, production, product managers, planning, marketing, sales and other professionals in the following industries: automotive and transportation, building and construction, composites, cosmetics, electrical insulation, fiber optics, graphic arts, packaging, flooring, adhesives, industrial coatings, ink, bottle and can manufacturing, dental and medical, metallizing, converting of paper/film/foil/textiles, communications media, plastics decoration and wood finishing.

Description
Radiation curing (ultraviolet light and electron beam technology) is a chemical manufacturing process for products and product finishing including adhesives, coatings, inks and other systems which use radiant (ultraviolet-UV and electron beam-EB) energy for polymerization, crosslinking or degradation of a formulated chemical product or material. High energy radiation applications in sterilization and plastics/rubber modification will not be presented in this course. This comprehensive course will cover both basic concepts and new developments in this new, high-growth technology. Generally, radiation curing provides the following advantages: 100% reactive, solventless, one-component formulations, energy conservation, pollution abatement and compliance with governmental regulations, low substrate heating, increased productivity, reasonable capital investment, improved product quality and unique product performance capabilities. Detailed presentations will provide information on applications and markets, chemistry/photoinitiation technology, additives, equipment, formulations, synthesis methods, manufacturing, application techniques, evaluation and testing, health and safety, government regulations and new developments/markets. The course will provide comprehensive knowledge of this new technology to managers, scientists/technologists and other professionals to stimulate creativity and innovation for new process and product developments. Particular emphasis is placed on encouraging individual interaction with the faculty throughout the course. Specific participants’ interests are also addressed in the popular open forum panel discussion.
