Description
The design, performance and operation of modern heat exchangers requires an understanding of the principles of heat transfer and fluid flow, coupled with access to both specially developed computer programs and a substantial amount of supporting data. This course will review heat transfer fundamentals as applied to tubular devices. Included will be sessions on the practical aspects of shell and tube heat exchanger thermal design with ASME and TEMA codes, costs and performance. Boiling, condensation and compact heat exchangers will be discussed.
There will be workshops devoted to hands-on PC programs for heat transfer and fluid flow. Also included will be a computer demonstration of exchanger design using a proprietary program and a library of physical properties. Sessions on the optional fifth day will include extended surface tubes, non-Newtonian fluids and fabrication.
