Description

Series Description: This series of 3 online classes is aimed to provide key fundamental basic knowledge in skin biochemistry; “Skin Biology
101”. The first class will look into definition of key words, skin structure and function, major cells and components. The second class will
described the structure of genes, meaning of expression, definition and role of cytokines, enzymes and receptors. The third class will explain
the role of water in skin, its bonding to other molecules and the importance of proper moisturization.
This is a 3-part series. To receive the maximum benefit from this training, the course director recommends that participants attend all three
sessions. However, each session may also be taken individually should one specific area of this Skin Biochemistry series match your
training needs.
Part 2 Course Description: This session will describe and define the human genome, genes, their structure, function and expression. It will
further describe the expression “products” of genes; namely cytokines, receptors and enzymes. The last module will exemplify the importance
of skin barrier and the chemical functions involved in maintain it; i.e. desmosomes and tight junctions.
