Dr. Alvin W. Nienow; Professor of Biochemical Engineering, University of Birmingham, U.K.
Dr. Alvin W. Nienow is Emeritus Professor of Biochemical
Engineering, University of Birmingham (U.K.) and a Fellow of the
Royal Academy of Engineering. He has published over 400 papers
on the fundamentals of solid/liquid mixing, applicable to
crystallization and precipitation; gas/liquid mixing in low viscosity
and complex fluids (bioprocesses); liquid/liquid systems (including
phase inversion) (food processing); and the impact of stresses in
bioprocessing. He has won several awards including The 2003
European Federation of Chemical Engineers Lifetime Award for
Mixing and has an Honorary Doctorate from Poland. He also
consults for companies and research laboratories including the
Fluid Mixing Processes Consortium (FMP). He is an editor of the
well known book, Mixing in the Process Industries.
