Description
The course will serve as an introduction to resolving piping related problems associated with boilers, pumps, turbines, expansion joints, pipe supports, steady state vibrations, transient vibrations, flow accelerated corrosion, and
dynamic response to fluid flow transients in operating piping systems and their support systems. Examples of actual field problems will be discussed, with a step-by-step approach illustrating how the problems were discovered,
how they were investigated, how the root causes were determined, and how either system operating procedures were changed or system hardware fixes were implemented to eliminate or mitigate the problems. Special attention will be given to methods of investigation for field problems. Generally, the methods involve application of basic engineering principles and the use of
good technical judgment. Where appropriate, analytical approaches will be presented that focus on an understanding of the root causes of the problems.
