Peter Smallwood, Director of Chemical Associates, a UK based independent technical and training consultancy, serving the chemical polymer and allied industries worldwide.
Dr. Smallwood graduated from the University of Liverpool with a BSc and PhD in surface and colloid chemistry, and has over twenty years’
experience working with ICI and AstraZeneca. In ICI he worked in their basic research laboratory on surface chemistry and biocolloids before
joining their PVC Group. In PVC he researched the polymerization and use of suspension PVC, before taking up an appointment as plant
technical manager. Dr. Smallwood has published a number of papers, reviews and patents on the polymerization process.
At AstraZeneca he became technical manager for their vinyl acrylic range of emulsion copolymers. This involved all aspects of their
manufacture and polymerization, as well as their use as paints and barrier coatings. In 1999 he directed the transfer of this technology
to Japan.
Dr. Smallwood established Chemical Associates to undertake technical and techno-commercial studies and training for the chemical industry.
