Who Should Attend
This course is intended for individuals in pharmaceutical or biotechnology companies that are interested in learning or in updating their knowledge with regards to the skin as a biological organ and a barrier to overcome when delivering drugs to the circulation, challenges and advantages of transdermal drug delivery. The program will be very valuable to professionals in:

  • Research and Development
  • Applications and formulations
  • QC/QA
  • Sales and marketing

Description
This comprehensive, two-day course is designed to provide basic understanding in design and development of transdermal delivery systems. The delivery of drugs applied to the skin into the systemic circulation is a challenge, not only because the skin presents an excellent barrier, but also because it is difficult to control the amount delivered per period of time. Moreover, when overcoming the barrier adverse reactions such as irritation, itch and discomfort may occur. The first day of the course focuses on the skin as a physical and biological barrier and the challenges it possesses in the development of delivery systems that target drugs into the blood circulation. We will also review the possible paths in the skin for the penetration of drugs, advantages and limitations of transdermal systems.

The second day focuses on methods to measure and evaluate skin absorption and the adverse effects to the skin that result from the patch application.
